A group of students, professors and graduates from a University masters photojournalism program will set off around China during the 21 days of the Olympics to discover how the Chinese are watching, celebrating and debating the event. Sending in daily video reports they will travel through all the Olympic cities and out to the furthest extremities of this vast country. Only a fraction of China’s 1.3 billion people will be there in person to watch the games, these reporters seek to discover the rest of the story.meet the teams
Team 1
DJ: With ten years experience as a news photographer, DJ Clark has worked for numerous newspapers and news agencies around the world. He is currently course leader for an MA Photojournalism program run by the University of Bolton (UK) in Dalian, China where he has lived for the last two years.
Shu: A graduate in graphic design, Xu Shu Min has worked both in the UK and in China as a freelance web designer and project developer. From south China originally, she moved to Dalian last year (northern China) where she is now developing a photography career.
Team 2
Tom Dooley: With an academic background in Visual and Cultural Anthropology and extensive travel experience, Tom Dooley is currently working on his Masters in International Photojournalism from the University of Bolton (UK) and is currently living in China.
Wang Xi: With experience as a freelance news photographer, Wang Xi has worked for newspapers, news websites and Chinese news agencies over the past three years. His work has been shown in PIP Photo Festival, DongGang Photo Festival , and World Photojournalism Festival (Tops), he is also a curator for the Singapore International Photo Festival. Wang Xi currently works as course manager for the MA Photojournalism program in Dalian.
Team 3
Change He: Second prize winner in the Nature stories category for the World Press Photo competition in 2006, He has won numerous awards throughout the world and exhibited widely. Currently picture editor at the Shanghai Oriental Morning Post He is also undertaking an MA in photojournalism in Dalian.
Yang Xiaoguang: Professor of Photography, Yang completed his MA in Visual art at Columbia Pacific University, USA before returning to his home city Dalian to help establish the College of Image Art. He has published more than 20 articles and 8 books on photography. He was visiting scholar at University of California Berkeley from 1988-1990 and has recently become involved in documentary filmmaking. His latest film with light production was shot in Uganda.
